Student Schedules

The day is divided into morning, afternoon and evening sessions. All of the faculty are available to students through classes or critiques. Students choose an area of concentration and work in that area every day for the entire summer. They have the option of working in that area during the entire day, or of also working in one or more of the disciplines outside of their major area.

Variations on the program are designed with individual interests and needs in mind. Students begin working at 9 a.m. and often
continue until midnight. (Studios are open during evening hours as
well as on weekends.)

For example, a possible daily program for a student who selects painting/drawing as a major area of concentration might be as follows:

9 a.m. – noon
Painting with instruction or critiques several times during the week, Monday through Friday.

Noon – 1:30 p.m.
Cafeteria lunch with faculty as well as students in the art, dance, music and theater programs.

1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Printmaking with instruction and critiques during Weeks 1-4. Ceramics with instruction and critiques during Weeks 5-8.

5 – 6 p.m.
Dinner with students and faculty.

6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Drawing on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings during Weeks 1-8.

7 – 8 p.m.
Art Lecture (Tuesday and Friday evenings) by a member of the faculty. Since there are nearly twice as many faculty and visiting
artists as there are spaces for lectures, many faculty also give informal slide talks during class time or on weekends.
